For International Women’s Day Felicity renewed the call to exonerate Christine Keeler, the woman who was caught up in the John Profumo scandal of the early 1960s. The story was taken up by a number of prominent news outlets including the Independent.
Felicity has been working pro bono on behalf of Ms Keeler’s son to have her posthumously pardoned – as was her dying wish in 2017. Disappointingly, after a three year wait, the Criminal Cases Review Commission (‘CCRC’) released their decision to exercise their discretion not to refer Ms Keeler’s case for appeal.
According to the Mirror, The CCRC decision stated that “Miss Keeler could not have secured a fair trial, particularly in view of the unprecedented level of prejudicial media coverage of her.” But ultimately denied the appeal, deciding that “In quashing the perjury conviction, the Court of Appeal would have a very limited ability to correct the public record in relation to Christine Keeler’s part in the Profumo Affair.”
