Niamh Spence from Tyla news quoted Felicity in her article about British woman Lindsay Sandiford who is incarcerated in an Indonesian prison and sentenced to death on drug trafficking charges. Ms Sandiford has been struggling to get her sentenced overturned since 2013 on the basis she was pressured to carry the drugs by people who made threats against her children. Under new laws there is a chance for Ms Sandiford’s death sentence to be reduced to life in prison.
Felicity visited Ms Sandiford in 2015 and earlier this year spoke to the media about her plight (quoted in the Tyla article):
“Indonesia is taking an important step in recognising the need to commute the sentences of those subject to the death penalty, especially women. Lindsay co-operated with the authorities and explained levels of coercion that should have at least mitigated her position. The Government should be taking active steps to facilitate her return to the UK, either to serve a sentence near her family or to consider her release.”
